Solar Powered Kiosks Educate Nigerians In ICT

One of the biggest problems facing many African nations today is energy. In West Africa, the situation is getting worse each day. Many people in Nigeria live without energy or electricity. In Ghana, not far from Nigeria, the situation is worse.

PCI Compliance – EMV Is ‘A Colossal Waste of Time’

IHL, which tracks retail payment trends, has slammed EMV in a recent report, calling it “a colossal waste of time, effort and capital to the retail industry.”

Source: www.paymentssource.com

Major holdup for EMV is that the banks are going to charge more per transaction to do EMV.  That’s a break in tradition where usually the more secure transaction has fewer fees since fewer problems. Card present transactions are cheaper for businesses than card-not-present for example.

Kiosk & Self-Service Advisory Panels – At home At work

I’ve been involved in this industry (kiosk) for way too long. A few years back we added self-service, and it seems the entire world is going that direction.  Yesterday I setup my new Amazon Echo. I am the early adopter techno-gheek running too many operating systems. Turns out though that it works perfectly for my wife who basically despises computers but likes good self-service. 24 hours later she is telling me what the Echo can do.A few weeks ago I took my 83 year old mother thru the self-chec

LG Creates Real-World Environments to Highlight New Technologies at InfoComm 2022 — for more information email [email protected]

SEOUL, June 9, 2022 — LG Electronics (LG) will showcase its innovative commercial technologies including Transparent OLED Signage to a diverse lineup of LED signage products and autonomous robot assistants in Las Vegas (USA) at InfoComm 2022 from June 8. LG will spotlight a variety of commercial use-case scenarios in seven distinct zones that demonstrate how LG products support business needs in boardrooms, retail boutiques, drive-throughs, residential home offices, professional creative studios and more.

Inside the booth, visitors will be treated to thoughtful technology implementations in spaces that explore how nearly all businesses today can leverage digital tools to improve efficiency, productivity and customer experiences.

Welcoming visitors to LG’s Retail Solutions zone is the LED signage solution using 54-inch bezel-free displays allowing integrators to create a seamless viewing experience. The new 54-inch LG LED Bloc (model LSAC) is approximately four times larger in area than most commonly used LED cabinets, and its unique size allows this model to use it like a 55-inch LCD video wall display with easy installation – it even fits the brackets of existing LCD video wall models.* Also being unveiled in the Retail Solutions zone, is the company’s first multi-purpose customer service robot, LG CLOi GuideBot, which is designed to provide wayfinding, enhanced security and powerful advertising opportunities. LG CLOi GuideBot’s friendly digital face and two large touch screens are designed to revolutionize the customer experience virtually everywhere from museums and convention centers to movie theaters and hotels.

The Reception zone highlights the creative and engaging possibilities of LG’s Transparent OLED Signage displays, while also demonstrating how 88-inch Ultra Stretch Displays and LG Ultra Slim LED signage can deliver informative and attractive backdrops.

In the Collaboration and Education Solutions zone, visitors will experience technologies targeted to boardrooms, meeting rooms and training rooms/learning environments. Products shown include LG’s 136-inch LED All-in-One display with onboard system controller and speakers, 55-inch and 43-inch versions of the LG One:Quick Works and One:Quick Flex 4K all-in-one collaboration tool, an 86-inch LG CreateBoard interactive whiteboard, the novel 28-inch LG DualUp Monitor with a unique 16:18 aspect ratio, a 27-inch QHD Ergo Dual desktop monitor, a 15-inch LG gram laptop and a 98-inch large format UHD signage for classrooms.

The Residential zone is split into two rooms. The Home Cinema area will exhibit LG MAGNIT – the jaw-dropping picture quality created by its several million self-emissive LED pixels lets people enjoy their favorite movies at home. And the Home Office area features a 43-inch One:Quick Flex display, a 14-inch LG gram laptop and two QHD ergonomic desktop monitors that can be independently oriented to form a 32:9 ultrawide display or a 16:18 display, or offer a vertical and horizontal screen simultaneously.

Creative, film and broadcast professionals may be especially interested in the OLED Pro Creative Studio zone, which demonstrates the exceptional color, clarity and performance of LG’s 32-inch UltraFine™ OLED Pro desktop monitor that can be supplemented with a monitor hood and a detachable self-calibration sensor. Two 65-inch UltraFine™ OLED Pro displays, one wall-mounted and the other on a stand, complete the space.

The Control Room zone demonstrates how LG’s 136-inch LED All-in-One can be leveraged in command centers. Plus, the company’s 55-inch Even Bezel LCD panels will form a variety of video wall displays with virtually no distinguishable separation between panels. A 43-inch IPS UHD desktop monitor will be displayed alongside a 49-inch IPS Dual QHD UltraWide™ curved monitor, offering a 32:9 aspect ratio.

Lastly, the Projector zone contains LG’s high-brightness and Ultra Short Throw (UST) 4K UHD CineBeam Laser projectors and the all-new ProBeam business projector showing how the company’s expansive product line offers optimized solutions for virtually every situation and need.

EV Charging Station Standards – Whitehouse Proposal

EV Charging Standards News

From SpectrumNews — As escalating gas prices fuel unprecedented demand for electric vehicles, the White House proposed new standards for a national network of EV chargers Thursday. To help make EV charging more convenient, reliable and affordable, the standards would make EV chargers easier to find, use and pay for, regardless of where they are located. For more information email [email protected]

“The new standards will ensure everyone can use the network — no matter what car you drive or which state you charge in,” according to a White House press statement.

In Brief

  • Proposing new standards for EV chargers to make them easier to find, use and pay for
  • Nationwide – EV drivers could cross state lines to confidently recharge
  • Funding – $7.5 billion in funding for EV charging infrastructure
  • Goal of 500,000 EV chargers as part of a national network for EV drivers

Excerpt

The move is intended to support the national electric vehicle charging network of 500,000 chargers throughout the country. Located along highways and in local communities, the network is designed to help families “plug in, charge up and drive across America,” according to the White House. There are currently about 100,000 public EV chargers nationwide, but they are a hodgepodge of brands and types that do not work with all EV makes and models.

The network’s new EV charger installations will be funded with $7.5 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that Biden signed last year. States will receive $5 billion to build out their charging infrastructure along highways to fill the gaps between disadvantaged, rural and hard-to-reach locations so EV drivers can feel more confident they will be able to refuel when needed.

Another $2.5 billion will be provided through competitive grants designed to support charging in local communities and corridors so they can improve air quality and improve charging access in disadvantaged areas. The U.S. Department of Transportation will begin accepting applications for the program later in the year.

The Biden administration’s announcement of the new standards for the National EV Infrastructure program comes as it works to accelerate electric vehicle adoption. Last August, the president signed an executive order for 50% of new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030.

About Return Kiosks

Value Drivers

Automated product returns kiosks let customers spend less time standing in lines waiting to physically return purchases, which means they can spend more time in store shopping. Service desks are areas of pressure for stores, as shoppers maintain distance between each other, significantly increasing the length of lines. Providing a self-service kiosk for drop-offs enables customer return transactions to skip the line, save time, and maintain social distancing behavior.

Returns processing solution kiosks enable you to:

  • Reduce line time for customers, for added convenience and more time to shop
  • Reassure customers of return success with simple customer journey and digital receipts
  • Create positive brand associations: easy-to-use tech solves a frustrating problem
  • Save time for staff members with fewer over-the-counter returns
  • Drive additional footfall into store without overloading store staff
  • Increase insight via data capture into who is returning, what is coming back, and why

Retail operators should also see this as an opportunity to drive footfall and better understand customer returns behavior to improve marketing. Using digital kiosks allows retailers to accurately capture returns data as well as streamline returns operations and cost.

Meridian Kiosks Growing – New Project Manager Amanda Jordan

Aberdeen, N.C. – April 19, 2018 – Meridian, an industry leading kiosk manufacturer, has welcomed Senior Project Manager, Amanda Jordan to its growing team of self-service kiosk experts. “Amanda’s experience is invaluable to the Meridian team, with her years at some of the worlds finest companies and her drive to continually improve the environment she works in,” said Meridian Founder and CEO, Chris Gilder.

Jordan has worked extensively in project product development in the automotive, electronic and medical industries (Siemens AG) in Europe, North America and Asia.“Successful projects are built on team cooperation and communication in dynamic and complex environments,” said Jordan. “Becoming a successful leader in project management involves recognizing and encouraging everyone’s contribution to the successful completion of a project and speaking their language.”

As Meridian’s Senior Project Manager, Jordan will strategically guide clients through each project. “As we continue to grow we see more and more projects happening simultaneously, and as I’ve heard it said, ‘kiosks are simple, you just have to get a thousand different things right.’ Having key leadership in that area is critical to doing just that,” said Gilder. Jordan will be helping overhaul Meridian’s internal systems and procedures to improve day to day operations and help manage growth.

“Meridian is a leading kiosk manufacturing company with a clear entrepreneurial flair, where independent thinking is encouraged to foster company success,” said Jordan. “People are what make any organization successful and as a project leader, it’s your job to bring a team together to drive success for the business.”

Meridian Announces New Manufacturing Leadership

meridian kiosk manufacturer Aberdeen, NC – October 17, 2018 – Meridian, an industry leading kiosk manufacturer and software developer, recently welcomed two new key leaders to their engineering and production teams. Eric Frank will serve as Meridian’s new Engineering Manager and Ricardo Sotomayor will serve as Production Manager. Together, the two bring more than 30 years of combined experience in design and engineering.

Frank, who comes to Meridian from Longview Texas, has spent the past 10 years of his career with Longview-based Micrometl Corporation as both a Design Engineer and Engineering Manager. He is certified in SolidWorks—with advanced specialties in sheet metal, drawing, and surfacing—AutoCad, and lean manufacturing. “I am excited to join a growing company that is always striving to be the leader in the industry, in design and innovation. I look forward to bringing my manufacturing and design experience to the team,” said Frank. As Engineering Manager, Frank will be responsible for leading the engineering and design team and collaborating with sales, manufacturing, and quality assurance to create new designs and improve upon existing ones.

Sotomayor joins Meridian from Mayagüez, Puerto Rico where he spent 12 years in renewable solutions engineering and 7 years with technology-giant, Hewlett Packard, where he carried numerous titles, including Tooling Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, and Process Engineer. Sotomayor also holds certifications in SolidWorks, AutoCad, and Lean Six-Sigma troubleshooting methodologies. As Production Manager, Sotomayor’s main focus will be on optimizing processes and efficiencies in manufacturing as Meridian continues to scale up production to meet increased demand for their products and services. “What I’m most looking forward to in my new challenge at Meridian is the family-based work culture, it fits perfectly with my style and the way I work,” said Sotomayor.

In addition to onboarding Frank and Sotomayor, Meridian’s Senior Project Manager, Amanda Jordan, was promoted to Operations Director. In her new role, Jordan will be responsible for driving processes and procedures to deliver quality products on time. Similarly to Frank and Sotomayor, Jordan is excited about her new role. “I’m looking forward to being more involved in people management, it’s truly our greatest resource,” Jordan said.

Jordan emphasized that this restructuring change is good for Meridian. “In order to meet our increasing volume we need to invest in our structure and resources. This change will enhance and further drive our ambition to be our customers’ first choice in a complete solution kiosk manufacturer.”

The new leadership structure demonstrates Meridian’s ongoing commitment to working as a team to provide the most innovative and highest quality self-service solutions. “With the emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, it gives our people the chance to make a more direct, positive impact on our product and end customer,” said Jordan.

HP Kiosks – Meridian kiosks and HP Team Up At NRF 2019

NRF 2019 trade show image

Editors Note: first published on Meridian website.

meridian kiosk manufacturer Aberdeen, NC – February 4, 2019 – Meridian, an industry-leading kiosk manufacturer and software developer recently teamed up with technology giant, HP Inc., once again. This year, the pair combined their technological expertise to create two different innovative digital retail solutions, which they introduced to the market at the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) 2019 Big Show in New York City.

The two retail solutions included a freestanding kiosk with a 32” touch screen and a countertop kiosk with a 14” screen. While aesthetically different, both kiosks function as a three-in-one solution—with self-checkout, endless aisle, and digital signage capabilities.

While the solutions were designed and manufactured by Meridian, both kiosks were designed to incorporate HP’s hardware. The freestanding unit was powered by the HP MP9 and the countertop unit was powered by the HP Engage One All-in-One. Both units also incorporated barcode scanners, contactless NFC payment devices, and touch technology—enabling users to make in-store purchases, browse available inventory, order online, and indicate shipping and receipt preferences, all from the kiosk.

“To excel in the fast-paced kiosk technology industry, you need forward thinking partners with creative ideas and proven expertise in the kiosk field—organizations that can propose and implement not only traditional solutions, but also innovative applications,” said Meridian’s Marketing Manager and NRF attendee, Stephanie Mewherter. “Meridian and HP have this kind of relationship. Together, our relationship provides end-to-end solutions, from consulting and designing a kiosk, to the integration of the hardware, software, and security monitoring.”

Meridian joined forces with HP at the Big Show last year as well—unveiling an retail-focused automated smart locker system.

Held at the Jacob K. Javits Center, the annual event is the world’s largest retail conference and expo. This year’s event attracted more than 37,000 attendees, 16,000 retailers, and 700 exhibitors.

The new kiosks will allow customers to browse Subway’s full menu, craft their sandwich order, and then check out with a credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, or Samsung Pay.

The “fresh forward” Subway design is launching today at the following locations: Tamarac, FL; Orlando, FL (2 locations); Winter Park, FL; Chula Vista, CA; Knoxville, TN; Palmview, TX; Hillsboro, OR; Vancouver, WA; Beauport, QC; Granby, QC; and Manchester, U.K.
